Overview

An easy and pleasant walk surrounded by nature, in the enchanting Bois de Gorrey along the banks of the Artanavaz stream. Winter holds sway here, with the few rays of sunshine filtering through the trees only in late winter-early spring, there is certainly no shortage of cold!
The trail is very popular and the trail is usually groomed, highly recommended for those who want to try snowshoeing for the first time.
For children, the presence of recreation areas at the start and finish will make the experience even more fun. A visit to the two point villages of Etroubles and Saint-Oyen will then be a must.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley and continue along it, passing the village of Gignod.
At Etroubles, just before the village, leave the E27 state road, turning left just before the bridge over the stream. Continue for a few dozen meters along the road to a large parking lot.

The route

From the parking area, continue along the road, which immediately becomes snow-covered at a bridge over the Artanavaz stream, which if crossed leads to a large recreational area for children.
Instead, continue to the left, skirting the stream and passing alongside a small hydroelectric power plant building. After a short ascent, the path enters the forest, which from time to time lets you see panoramic views of the southern slope of the mountains overlooking Etroubles and Saint-Oyen.
The path is always pleasant and follows the route of the "Sentiero Vita," that is, a path with numerous stops where you will notice installations for physical activity with various exercises. Obviously, in winter it is not the ideal season, while in summer it is a way to combine a walk with physical well-being.
The always well-trodden trail ends at the outskirts of Saint-Oyen, where you also meet the cross-country ski trail that runs parallel to the stream. You reach the picnic area nestled in the pine forest, a short walk from the Pré Neuf picnic area. Nearby are numerous recreational facilities, a playground, and various fields for practicing sports.
The return is along the same route as the outward journey, or in case the cross-country track on the opposite bank of the stream is not used, you can follow the route on the hydrographic left of the stream, which is a little sunnier.
