Overview

Very interesting end-of-season itinerary that allows you to ski down into Swiss territory via the Fenêtre de Ferret.
What is described turns out to be a small skitour with a partially circular route and with the achievement of a fairly scenic peak, the Tête de Ferret.
We ascend the Fenêtre slope and finally reach the Tête de Fenêtre, from which views of the overlooking Mont Dolent are appreciable.
The descent to the lakes below is easy and well skied, as is the subsequent ascent to the Fenetre d'en Haut, from which point you can ascend in about ten minutes to the Tête de Fonteinte.
Final descent with no particular passing obligations that make it enjoyable.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley and continue along it, passing the villages of Gignod, Etroubles and Saint-Oyen.
Just before Bosses, turn right onto State Road 27 for the Great St. Bernard Pass.
Go past the village of Saint-Rhémy and reach the small parking area below Alpe Baou.

The route

Climb up to the pasture and then follow the bottom of the small valley to the wide basin below the pass.
Progress in the direction of the "window" following the sinuosity of the terrain with gradually increasing gradient, without reaching the pass deviate to the left and climb the beautiful slopes leading up the crest.
Continue left ascending the final ridge that, with a steeper section, leads to the Tete de Ferret 2823 m.
Reaching the summit, proceed with the first descent, first to the col then to the wide basin of the Lacs de Fenêtre with pleasant skiing. Reaching the lake, which is obviously visible only towards the end of the season, you repel and proceed uphill to the south aiming towards the Fenêtre d'en Haut, the one that can be seen to the left of the Tete de Fonteinte.

Descent:
Reached the pass, at an altitude of 2723 m, (possible ascent to the right in a few minutes to the Tête de Fonteinte) you proceed following the first slope and then move to the left and without a forced path reach the Alpe Baou.
