Overview

The Regondi Bivouac is located in the valley of Ollomont in the Morion comba, at the foot of Mont Gelè and is placed on a grassy hump very panoramic over the Conca di By as well as the mountains themselves that surround itGot 15 places has a wooden structure as an outer covering that integrates it perfectly in the surrounding environment.Reaching this bivouac is a pleasant hike, of medium length and physical commitment, suitable for everyone provided they have a minimum of training, and does not present technical difficulties thanks to the beautiful path.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel along the E27 road leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley, at the end of which you meet the SS27 coming from the center of Aosta. Just before Gignod, immediately after the last tunnel, proceed to the right following the Valpelline SR28, reaching the main town. Continue in the direction of Bionaz and as soon as you leave the village, on the left is the junction for Ollomont, which is reached after 5 km. Continue further along the road, which ends after 3 km in the locality of Glassier (or Glacier) in the large paved parking lot just before the houses.

The route

From the Glassier parking area, continue to the right past the small bridge and follow a farm road to the nearby Alpe Crottes where you will encounter the marker post for trail no. 6 for the Regondi Bivouac. You ascend upstream of the alpine pasture following the path that enters the dense larch forest and begins to climb the ridge with a long series of hairpin bends with a good gradient. You pass next to a characteristic chapel set in the rock, the Oratory of Gaula 1863 m and then cross the stream leading to the left. You leave the forest at a depression until you reach the foot of the alpine pastures of les Places 2149 m with a couple of hairpin bends. Beyond the ruins, the trail advances without any particular slope until it reaches the marshy plain of Breuil. The trail encounters a sign board indicating the Bivouac and goes around the plateau on its right at the bottom of which you find yourself at the foot of a rocky prominence. After crossing a couple of streams, you begin to climb with rapid switchbacks until you reach a new marker panel. Then the trail tends to the right (south) and reaches a section with little slope and then resumes its meandering path to the wide basin that hosts the Inclousa Lake 2420 m.You enter a small valley, leaving the lake on the right; then you turn left to begin the ascent to the promontory on which the bivouac is located, already visible. The route now becomes very scenic, and despite a section with a steeper slope the fatigue is compensated for by the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.Having overcome the steepest section, the ridge becomes gentler and more sinuous, mostly grassy; you skirt from above the beautiful Lago de la Leita 2538 m, of clear glacial origin, and with a short up and down you reach the bivouac. It is advisable, with a short detour, to continue on path no. 6 beyond the bivouac, losing about 50 m in altitude to reach the beautiful Lac de la Basya 2516 m with its characteristic turquoise color, located at the foot of the moraine of the Mont Gelè glacier, before returning to Glacier by the same route as the ascent.
