Overview

Morguinaz is a small group of huts, now abandoned and partly ruined, located on the first slopes of the south side of the Allein mountain.
The hike is rather short and easy, suitable for everyone and is particularly suitable even on the coldest winter days, thanks to its generous sunshine. By contrast, snow disappears quickly on these slopes, so the right moment must be seized!"

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel that leads into the Great St. Bernard Valley and continue along it, passing the villages of Gignod and Etroubles.
After 2 km you arrive at Saint-Oyen, where you leave your car in the parking lot in front of the Church, or in the elevated parking lot behind the town hall.

The route

From the town hall square in Saint-Oyen, one climbs up flanking a small channeled stream beside a dwelling, and then crossing a meadow until it crosses Via Chavanne, where the last houses are located. Crossing the road, one climbs along a small road supported by a low wall with a beautiful stone-roofed house on the right, and the stream on the left.
Soon one enters a wooded strip, where one encounters the numerous trail markers drawn on a boulder: the trail to follow is path 14.
After a short stretch in an easterly direction, the path begins to climb with a good slope to the south, until it reaches a characteristic rock face, which must be circumvented from below to the left.
A little later the forest ends, giving way to snow-covered slopes, from which the Morguinaz chalets are already clearly visible, which can be reached with a last little effort.
The buildings are now almost all ruined, but their extremely panoramic position, despite the not too high altitude, still makes the hike worthwhile. One will be able to enjoy sitting in the sunshine the beautiful view of the valleys opposite, on the north side of Saint-Oyen, such as the Vallone del Flassin.
For those who wish to continue a little further, one reaches a farm track about 50 m above Morguinaz, which leads if followed northeast to the Alpeggio di Barasson, at the mouth of the valley of the same name.
