Salita veloce, diretta, ombreggiata nel tratto centrale, ottimo panorama, possibilità di compiere un anello più morbido, che riporta al dortoir, seguendo la cresta Ovest che si stacca poco sotto la vetta.

Overview

Mont Saron is the iconic mountain of the Allein area, its position acting as a watershed between the Valpelline to the east and the Great St. Bernard Valley to the west, making it one of the most scenic destinations in the area, with views ranging from Mont Blanc to the central valley with Mont Emilius and the peaks of the Valgrisenche, as well as, of course, the high peaks of the Ollomont Valley, just a stone's throw away. The climb presents no particular difficulty but is steep in places, so it is suitable for well-trained hikers. The route, with a loop tour, is very varied and interesting because it proposes the crossing of two different ridges, with very varied and always new views. It alternates cool woods even in summer with very sunny stretches, so it is already a feasible hike in early summer and can also be hiked in late autumn, with the colors of autumn accompanying the walk.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel along the E27 road leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley, at the end of which you meet the SS27 coming from the center of Aosta. Continue along it, passing the village of Gignod. Continue for another 4 km along the E27, to abandon it in favor of the detour to the right for Allein, Doues, Valpelline.Reached Allein continue upstream reaching the hamlet of La Villa; crossed the built-up area going up towards the hamlets upstream, overlook the first fork on the right then at the next fork turn left for the hamlet of Bruson. Pass it and leave the car in the parking lot just beyond the houses.

The route

From the parking lot beyond the houses of Bruson, follow the no-trespassing road heading west to the first hairpin bend where you continue on trail No. 24, which begins in the center of Allein and passes precisely through Bruson. You briefly follow the farm road uphill to the left, which ends not far away, until you meet the fork on the right where the trail markers continue, which begins to gain altitude rapidly with a steep section within the dense forest.Reaching an elevation of 1711 m, you cross another farm track where there is a marker post, the trail continues on the dry stone wall with a fence, still in the forest to then make a long traverse to the east where you come out into a scenic clearing not far from the Fontaines alpine pasture 1894 m. Go up the next meadow northward, re-entering among the now less dense larch trees, crossing yet another dirt track that you cross until you reach the large alpine pasture Parc 2014 m (fountain). The trail continues behind the hut diagonally westward among the large larch trees until you reach the lower part of the wide south ridge that originates from the summit. At the end of the traverse, it resumes a more direct ascent until the final exit from the woods and, after a few hairpin bends, reaches the ruin of Alpe Fontanin 2244 m, located in a small hollow at the base of the final grassy slope. Nearby is a large wooden cross, from which you can already enjoy a remarkable panorama. With no possibility of error, you resume climbing along the grass ridge and gradually dotted with boulders, remaining always on the sunny Allein slope. With a bit of effort you reach an elevation of 2580 m, where the trail makes a traverse below the summit taking you to the opposite (east) ridge, where you cross trail No. 25. Turning sharply to the northwest, you face the last stretch of ascent aiming at the large cross already clearly visible. The cross is located a few meters below the maximum altitude of the summit, which is reached without any difficulty. The descent is made by following path no.25 in its entirety, which descends rather steeply down the east ridge but without any danger. At about 2280 m, where the first trees are encountered at a meadow, it veers to the left into the Doues slope, before resuming markedly the descent within the Bois de Baravex to 2026 m at a trail junction. Trail No. 24A should now be followed, which shortly below crosses a farm road in the vicinity of the Baravex damon 1958 m.Following the signs begins a long traverse that cuts across the entire southern slope of the mountain, and after touching the pastures of Orgéres 1892 m and Noviou leads to the Fontaines alp 1894 m from where proceeding again inside the forest, one meets the uphill trail taken on the outward journey (trail No. 24) at the junction at an altitude of 1853 m, and then return to Bruson by the known route, concluding this rewarding loop tour.
