Overview

Mont de la Tsa is a bifid peak located in the long east, southeast ridge that descends from Mont Fallère to Pointe de Metz.
Trail often in shade in the initial part remains well sunny in the upper part from the Col de Tardiva onwards with consequent variations in the consistency of the snowpack.
The route has a discrete development and is very varied; up to the Col de Tardiva usually not very busy so it allows to find quite easily untouched lines of descent.
The initial part of the route develops inside the forest making the progression a little less easy.
From the Ars alpine pasture, the gradients change and later, climbing up the ridge, the views are really exciting.
The final part of the climb is very captivating because of the sinuosity of the slopes crossed.
At the summit the panorama is exceptional, a 360° view of all the peaks crowning the surrounding valleys with privileged views of the main Aosta Valley massifs from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn to the north and from the Rutor group to Mont Emilius to the south.
The descent takes place on the same slope and on the same route taken on the ascent, without any particular obligatory passages, which make it very pleasant.
The itinerary, classified BS, presents some sections with slight difficulties to be faced with due experience therefore it is advisable to face it with a good technical and physical preparation.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley and continue along it, passing the village of Gignod.
Just before Etroubles you will encounter the village of Echevennoz: leave the E27 highway by turning left of the roadway to enter the village and turn further left following the signs for Chez Les Blancs. Continue for 400 meters until you reach the village parking lot.

The route

From the parking area, proceed in a southerly direction up the wide slopes or the rural road without an obligatory path until you reach the Gariache farmhouse 1472 m.
Continue to the right following the rural road on the flat and then leave it after about 600 m, turning left and starting to go up the forest in a narrow passage between the trees before meeting a wide clearing to be climbed to the end keeping to the right edge.
At the end of the clearing re-enter the forest where you again meet the rural road to be followed until the beginning of the Vallon d'Ars, where the forest ends.
Continue along the road, leaving the pasture of Ars 1974 m on the right, and go up a small valley until you reach the Tardiva Alp 2220 m and shortly, on the steep slope, the Col de Tardiva 2410 m.
From the pass turn right up the wide ridge with the goal clearly visible on the horizon.
Keep on the ridge, abandoning it when you begin to detach the south ridge that runs from Mont de la Tsa to the not far away Pointe de Chaligne.
You leave the ridge by wide slopes that, without an obligatory path lead to the final steep slope that anticipates the bifid point.
You overcome the last asperity until you reach, last meters often on foot, the main summit of Mont de la Tsa 2742 m.

Descent:
The descent takes place on the tracks of ascent with no particular route obligations at the top.
From the summit, after the first steep section, you descend gentle slopes down to the col de Tardiva, then the slopes steepen until you reach the Ars alpine pasture.
From the Ars alpine pasture, follow exactly the route followed on the ascent.
