Description

This beautiful loop, almost entirely in the woods, leads to a peak that overlooks the village of Bosses. Despite the modest elevation, in the summertime you can enjoy the coolness that these woods give.
In some sections the trail is not very visible and care must be taken to follow the correct path.
In early summer, the Flassin Valley from which the descent will take place is a riot of blooms.

Description

Overview

This beautiful loop, almost entirely in the woods, leads to a peak that overlooks the village of Bosses. Despite the modest elevation, in the summertime you can enjoy the coolness that these woods give.
In some sections the trail is not very visible and care must be taken to follow the correct path.
In early summer, the Flassin Valley from which the descent will take place is a riot of blooms.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth take the tunnel leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley and continue along it past the village of Gignod and on to Etroubles. Without crossing the bridge continue straight ahead for about a hundred meters to the parking lot.

The route

From the parking lot, take the wide path no. 6 which climbs directly into the meadow and then enters the dense forest.
You continue through the beautiful fir forest until you reach the military road that crosses the entire slope of the Grande Tête.
You follow it for a stretch to the right and then continue to the left, still in the forest, until you reach another rural road.
You continue along the wide switchbacks until you reach the wide basin below Mont Labiez.
The tip of the Grande Tête with its terminal rocks is now visible to the right.
The trail shifts to the left and passes near some large earth bumps that protect against any avalanches that might break off from Mont Labiez in the winter.
The trail now climbs steeply until it reaches the ridge.
It is necessary at this point to move to the right and, with some fairly exposed sections on a poorly marked path, you reach the small rocks below the summit proper.
The short final section is to be considered for experienced hikers: in case the ground is slippery, or there are children, it is advisable to stop on the ridge.
