Description
The Col de Malatrà is certainly one of the most beautiful windows on Mont Blanc, the spectacle one enjoys when reaching the narrow pass is unforgettable.
The first part of the ascent takes place over wide, very green pastures, contrasting this is the final basin that has a lunar appearance due to the debris bottom.
In the last part one can find snow until late summer.
Located on the route of Alta Via No. 1, the pass is also known for being the last asperity of the Tor des Geants race...

Da anni Federica voleva fare il malatrà e ci siamo andati oggi per vedere anche un pezzo del utmb. La giornata non era delle migliori ma comunque ci riteniamo soddisfatti.

Description
Partiti da Arp de Joux e seguendo la lunga poderare abbiamo raggiunto senza passarci il rifugio Frassati, salendo direttamente al piano superiore e poi al colle. Sosta al bel rifugio al ritorno e per alcuni di noi discesa a Mottes seguendo l’alta via, recuperati poi dai guidatori. Forse seppur considerando il dislivello superiore, sarebbe meglio partire da qui per il percorso molto bello.

Giornata fredda ma bellissima. Panorama grandioso che passa dal verde della parte inferiore al grigio dell'ultimo tratto. Il colle poco più di un piccolo intaglio che si affaccia sul Monte Bianco. Percorso sempre ben segnato e agevole anche nella parte finale. Gita veramente consigliata.

Overview
The first part of the ascent takes place over wide, very green pastures, contrasting this is the final basin that has a lunar appearance due to the debris bottom.

Located on the route of Alta Via No. 1, the pass is also known for being the last asperity of the Tor des Geants race.
The Frassati Refuge, on the route, offers a good opportunity for lunch.
Reaching the start
Leave the road that climbs to the Great St. Bernard Pass on the right and continue on the E27 state road until you meet, on the right, the exit for the Crevacol ski resort.
At the small traffic circle, turn right for about a hundred meters and then turn left into a large parking lot where you can leave your car.
The route
Follow it on the level, pass the Devies Alp and then leave the road and ascend on the right the path that rises between wide slopes until you reach the houses of Merdeux-Désot 1919 m.
Continue for a short distance until reaching another rural road, continue on the left slightly downhill until passing just above the Cotes alp 1932 m.
The trail now crosses steep slopes high on the valley floor and then crosses the stream coming from Grand Golliaz to reach the abandoned Moindaz alp 1966 m.
You cross wide pastures until you reach with a steeper section the Tsa de Merdeux 2273 m, where you meet the farm track coming from the Arp du Jeu.
You continue left again to then climb and, with a detour to the right, reach the Frassati hut 2452 m.
After a well-deserved break at the hut, you continue further and with a traverse to the left you return to the main trail leading to the pass.
You thus reach the final lunar basin that precedes the col.
A long diagonal to the left, a steep section over unstable terrain, and then make the last, steeper but equipped section with iron steps and a fixed rope that allows you to reach the narrow notch of the col, from which the view of Mont Blanc is unique.

Ancora tanta neve dopo il rifugio ma ormai si tratta di neve estiva che sprofonda poco salvo nei tratti dove è più sottile. Salito al colle per ammirare l’alba. Usati i ramponi nel tratto ripido sotto il colle con la neve ben rigelata

Niente da segnalare sul percorso, tutto a posto, anche i canaponi . Al ritorno siamo passati dal rifugio Frassati.

Road access: comodo parcheggio
Description
Il parcheggio è prima del viadotto del tunnel. Noi abbiamo parcheggiato all’ultimo e ci siamo inoltrate nel vallone, poi abbiamo capito che eravamo troppo basse. Dietrofront e auto fino a Arp du Jeux. Strada poderale infinita. Vallone stupendo. Sentiero dall’alpeggio ben segnato. Il colle è davvero un luogo affascinante. Giornata molto calda.

Partito da arp de jeux. Sentiero sempre rovinato dell’abbandono della poderale sino a quasi il rifugio. Oltre il rifugio nessun problema sino al colle.

Oggi le nubi sono salite già a metà mattinata, e dal colle la vista sul Bianco e altre vette è stata limitata. In ogni caso una bella escursione, in un vallone che alterna paesaggi verdeggianti con aspri ambienti detritici e pietrosi tipici dell'alta montagna.
