Arrivati con l’auto fino a quota 1850, sci nello zaino per 200 mt dopodiché neve continua. Partenza alle ore 7 con buon rigelo. Discesa su ottima crosta portante scegliendo le giuste esposizioni fono a quota 2400, dopodiché crosta non portante abbastanza antipatica da sciare, migliora nettamente negli ultimi pratoni finali. In discesa sci fino all’auto con qualche gava e buta. Buone gite

Details
Overview
The hike can be divided into two parts, the first up to the Champillon- Adolphe Letey Refuge takes place on very gentle slopes, between glades and the mountain huts of Doues and the Comba di Champillon. Up to the hut the slopes are wide and relaxing while in the final part to reach the pass (difficulty BS) one faces a steeper gully, which requires safe and settled snow.
This is a nice, typically winter climb, where one can enjoy good sunshine up to the hut, while the final 300 m can reserve powdery snow even in early spring.
Reaching the start
Reach Doues, where you turn left following the signs for the Comba di Champillon, and after 2 km you reach Chatellair where generally in the winter period the road is cleared of snow near the cottages of Haut Praz Bas.
The route
You enter the fir tree belt, arriving at a slightly steeper slope that once overcome leads to the Red hut 1734 m. You continue on the slope of Alpe Plan Taredaz 1836 m, already visible
You climb along the snow-covered meadows toward Vorbè, from which you find again the road that you should follow to the right until the hairpin bend and then find again in the next traverse the path n.8 which will allow you to take a shortcut, reaching the alpine pasture Parc 2063 m.
At this point you follow the path of the road, which with a bend to the right leaves the southeast side of the mountain and the glimpses of the Aosta basin, to pass on the side of the Valley of Ollomont giving breathtaking views of the peaks that dominate the valley, such as the Grand Combin, Mont Gelè and Mont Avril.
You arrive at Plan Debat 2070 m, where you leave the road, which continues toward the Conca di By, turning sharply to the left up the gentle and wide snowy slope staying to the right of the Torrent de Vesey furrow.
Overcoming the undulations of the terrain one reaches the large alpine pasture Tsa de Champillon 2309 m, not far from the Refuge Letey - Champillon, already clearly visible on a hump in a southwesterly direction.
We reach the refuge at 2405 m by taking advantage of a wide and gently sloping ridge, from which one can see the slope leading to the pass.
You continue behind the hut, immediately tackling the steepest hump, about in the middle of the small valley leading to the pass, which is already clearly visible, staying to the left of the rocky buttresses of Mont Crou de Bleintse.
Having passed the first hump, you deviate slightly to the right of the gully, still facing a section with a good slope that precedes a small valley where the slope decreases and you point to a wide creek, shortly reaching the stone marker that signals Col Champillon.
Here the panorama, already vast over the high peaks of the Ollomont Valley (Grand Combin, Mont Velan, Mont Gelè) is enriched by the view of the Valley of the Great St. Bernard and the main mountains of the southern side of the Aosta Valley.
Descent
The descent takes place roughly on the ascent route, taking advantage in the upper part of the gully and the depressions where the best areas of powdery snow can be found. In the lower part, on the other hand, depending on the snow cover, you can choose to follow the road or the glades around the alpine pastures concatenating the easy slopes (snow-covered meadows).

Saliti in auto fino a quota 1700. Da lì subito sci ai piedi. Copertura neve praticamente costante tagliando su per i tornanti. Arrivati al vallone del colle Champillon si apre il parco giochi! Salita al colle in totale tranquillità e sicurezza. Discesa decisamente divertente fino all’auto.

Giornata molto calda per essere Febbraio. Siamo arrivati fino al rifugio in quanto sulla via di salita erano presenti fronti valanghivi e non sembrava che avesse scaricato tutto. Questo unito al caldo e alle condizioni della neve ci ha fatto pensare che non ne valesse la pena arrivare al colle. Sul pendio dietro il rifugio (poco più di 30°) abbiamo effettuato un profilo stratigrafico e fatto un piccolo blocco di slittamento. I primi 15/20 cm dell’ultima nevicata non sono ancora ben assestati e sono venuti giù molto facilmente. Sotto c’è uno strato di una sessantina di cm di neve compatta che poggia su cristalli molto poco coesi. Questo strato è venuto giù al terzo salto (vedi video). In profondità c’è uno strato di brina dovuto probabilmente al freddo di inizio gennaio. In discesa belle curve su neve quasi primaverile dove non ci sono sastrugi nella comba di Champillon e neve papposa dopo il bosco.

Giornata calda e senza vento. La neve si è abbastanza bagnata, risultando un pochino pesante in alcuni tratti. In certi punti sfonda. La sciata è comunque divertente ma molto discontinua, occorre essere sempre concentrati. Più bella sotto il rifugio che sopra.

La traccia di salita era piena di buchi dovuti al passaggio di ciaspolatori. Capisco quando ci sono punti stretti e obbligati, ma nella conca di Champillon i ciaspolatori avrebbero potuto farsi un'altra traccia.

4 stelle la parte alta, 2-3 quella bassa. Partenza a q. 1750, sull’interpoderale, con neve ghiacciata tritata da motoslitta. Dove possibile tagli per i prati, noi poi abbiamo seguito la strada fino alla Comba di Champillon (4-5 metri in tutto senza neve). Nessun problema a risalire la comba, ben tracciata la parte ripida finale. Dal colle invece di scendere dal lato salita siamo passati dal vallone a sinistra (salendo) della piccola punta proprio sopra il rifugio, trovando neve farinosa e gran parte della discesa nella comba completamente verginella!! (stando alti sulla destra orografica). Strada per lo più tritaginocchia, ma di neve ce n’è, con qualche ricorso alla fantasia nei pezzi di prato.

Salito con armo5 con cui, per precauzione, ci siamo fermati qualche curva sotto l’agriturismo Les Vieux Alpages a quota 1826 circa, quindi spallaggio sino a quota 2100 circa, oltre Plan du Débat. Quindi neve continua sino in cima oramai completamente assestata e trasformata con un palmo di fresca sopra. Bellissima la discesa sino al primo ripiano prima del muro e poi dal rifugio a quota 2100. Con noi altre 6 persone sul percorso in una giornata stupenda.

Road access: La spolverata dei giorni scorsi ha sporcato un pò la strada con tratti ghiacciati che si possono comunque superare con gomme da neve, quattro stagioni o se si ha voglia di mettere le catene
