Overview

One of the many wild side valleys of the Valpelline.
The first part of the trail climbs the steep wooded slope, but in the second part the valley becomes flat.
The basin where the Verdonaz alp is located is a beautiful clearing isolated among rugged mountains.
A religious procession takes place every year at the Verdonaz Chapel.
In less than 30 minutes, the Arpeyssaou Pass can also be reached from where the La Lliée bivouac is visible just below, in the Verdignolaz valley.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley and continue along it.
After about a hundred meters from the exit of the second tunnel, turn right into Valpelline.
You reach the built-up area of Valpelline, which you pass, without reaching the main town of Oyace, just below the spur on which Tornalla dominates, turn right at Vernosse.
You cross the stream and continue to a small lay-by where the road that can be traveled by car ends.

The route

From the small parking area, take the steep path on the left that climbs up the slope until you reach the clearing where the Verdonaz Alp is located.
You continue along wide turns until you reach the Broiller Alp where the valley opens up completely.
The path continues for a flat section and then climbs up on the left until the beginning of a gully.
It crosses it and climbs it along the steep shoulder, then it moves to the right to reach the beautiful upper plateaus.
The trail crosses the stream and reaches the remains of the Tsa di Broiller, absolutely worth seeing the beautiful vaults built of dry stone of the stables where the animals were housed.
You still continue with a short ascent and reach the Verdonaz alp.
In early summer (late June - early July) the meadows around the Verdonaz alp are white with a beautiful bloom of anemones.
From the alp in a few minutes you reach the Verdonaz Chapel.
