Overview
From the summit, the view sweeps from the bottom of the Aosta valley to the peaks of the entire Valpelline.
To be done only by very well-trained hikers.
To shorten the route, it is possible to reach by car, from Saint-Christophe, the village of Blavy (this saves about two hours of climbing).
Reaching the start
Reaching the locality Rhins, immediately afterwards turn right with a sharp bend reaching in 2 km the village of Roisan. Continue until you see high above the road the church, leave the car in the parking lot on the right before the town hall.
The route
Having passed the church you reach the road which you cross twice, having reached it again you follow it to the right, pass between the houses of Preil and continue along it.
The road now climbs decisively, at the third hairpin bend on the right begins the path that leads to Blavy.
You once again reach the rural road, which you cross and with a final ascent reach the beautiful basin in which the village of Blavy is situated.
Having crossed the village and, again the road, you ascend along wide slopes, pass near a water reservoir and then reach the dirt road again.
You follow it for a stretch and then take the path on the right that, climbing in the steep forest, reaches with a last traverse to the right the Viou alp.
You now continue behind the alp along a nice little valley until you reach the wide basin below the Viou pass that you reach with a last steep slope.
When you reach the pass, continue on the left following the wide shoulder (the Penne Nere bivouac is easily reached nearby to the north), which in the final part becomes a partly rocky ridge until you reach the summit on which there is a cross.
The view sweeps westward over the Aosta plain and Mont Blanc and northeastward over all the mountains of Valpelline.
