Overview

The Alpeggio la Tsa is located in the upper Valpelline, in the municipal territory of Bionaz at the southern edge of the verdant Comba de la Tsa.Bounded to the north by the mountains of the Crete de la Tsa, looking south you have the feeling of being on a real panoramic balcony, with the imposing Becca di Luseney in front of you.The ascent route is very pleasant and not particularly strenuous, developing for a good part within a beautiful larch forest that nevertheless leaves room from time to time for pleasant panoramic views.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth, take the tunnel along the E27 road leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley, at the end of which you meet the SS27 coming from the center of Aosta. Just before Gignod, immediately after the last tunnel, proceed to the right following the Valpelline SR28, reaching the capital. You continue for another 15 km along the SR28 passing Oyace and Bionaz; 2 km beyond Bionaz, you meet the left fork with signs for Alpe Rebelle and paths to the Crete Seche Refuge. You can park in the roadside clearings just before the houses of Chez-Chenoux.

The route

Trail #5 begins immediately from the parking lot, you climb along a small depression within the larch forest, initially quite dense; you keep to the left to face a couple of hairpin bends of the trail rising rapidly in elevation, and where the forest becomes less dense and lets the sun's rays filter through. You continue to the right, and after a short flat section you resume climbing the wooded ridge until you reach a large isolated rock, which you leave to the right. You come to the end of a shelf where you meet a marker post, here with a wide curve you go up the forest above, and then continue to the right in an area where the trees become thicker. You pass near a large boulder and resuming climbing always with non-fatiguing slopes you momentarily exit the forest entering a wide plateau with first a ruined alpine pasture, and then Alpe Chalon 1951 m.You pass to the right of the alpine pasture, continuing in a northerly direction with an ascending traverse, and after crossing the furrow of the Torrent de la Tsa, you re-enter the vegetation, resuming climbing in a now more decisive manner. When you finally leave the forest, you enter the verdant pasture basin of the Comba de la Tsa, where some bumps still prevent you from seeing the alpine pasture, which, however, is not far away and can be reached in a few minutes by continuing to the right of the plateau. There then pops up the group of huts and stables of Alpe la Tsa 2245 m, right at the foot of the southern slope of Mont de la Tsa, with its dolomitic appearanceDescending, follow back the same route as you climbed up to Alpe Chalon, from which you continue to the right following the dirt track that descends gently, flanking a grassy clearing before continuing into the woods. After passing a few hairpin bends with beautiful views of Bionaz, you return to the houses of Chez-Chenoux and the parking lot.
