Upstream of the hamlet of Eternod, in the municipal territory of Etroubles on the border with Saint-Oyen is the beautiful stone mountain pasture of Barasson, right at the entrance of the valley of the same name, at the edge of the dense forest of Plan Puitz.This is a very easy hike suitable for everyone, free of danger and very suitable even in the coldest days of winter, thanks to the special microclimate of the area and the abundant sunshine it enjoys.

Description

Gita facile e bella fatta seguendo l’anello consigliato da Biella10 (grazie). Parcheggiata la strada a fine della strada asfaltata. Le ciaspole si indossano subito. La giornata era molto calda e la neve nella parte iniziale era un po’ pesante. Se si ha poco tempo a disposizione questa è una escursione breve e molto piacevole.

Saliti da Eternod Dessus facendo la poderale; alla partenza circa sessanta centimetri di neve. Arrivati all’Alpe Barasson come da descrizione. Scesi passando per il sentiero TDC/1 fino a ritrovare la poderale fatta salendo e chiudendo così l’anello. Francesca ed Alessandro (CAI/ANA Biella)

Bella escursione, in alcuni tratti però la neve non era portante visto l'alta temperatura, ma all'alpeggio ci si arriva comodamente.

Upstream of the hamlet of Eternod, in the municipal territory of Etroubles on the border with Saint-Oyen is the beautiful stone mountain pasture of Barasson, right at the entrance of the valley of the same name, at the edge of the dense forest of Plan Puitz.This is a very easy hike suitable for everyone, free of danger and very suitable even in the coldest days of winter, thanks to the special microclimate of the area and the abundant sunshine it enjoys.

Reaching the start

From the Aosta East tollbooth take the tunnel leading into the Great St. Bernard Valley and continue along it, passing the villages of Gignod and Etroubles.Just before Saint-Oyen turn right, following the signs for Prailles. Go up the communal road for 3.6 km until you reach the junction for the small village of Prailles dessous: go straight on in the direction of Eternod dessous, which you reach a couple of kilometers later. Without descending into the hamlet, leave your car at the fork.

The route

From Eternod dessus you descend slightly to pass through the center of the small village (fountain), passing by the pretty little church; go up the lane between the last houses following trails 16-17 starting to climb gently alongside a dry stone wall up an open slope with sparse vegetation, until you meet the farm track further uphill at an altitude of 1760 m.At the junction you continue on the uphill farm track, then neglecting the right fork to Essenaz, not far away.The now very pleasant and scenic trail makes a long semicircle to circumvent the slopes of Mont Paglietta, until it crosses a small bridge over the Barasson stream, now a short distance from the beautiful Barasson alpine pasture 1868 m, at the foot of the dense pine and larch forest (Bois de Plan Puitz).For the return trip, a short loop trail, alternative to the uphill route, can be taken. From the alpine pasture shelf, descend northward following (if visible) the trail markers of trail n.16 and 17 (heading to Saint-Oyen) down a wide snow-covered meadow until you intercept a farm road on which the route of Alta Via n.1 passes. At this point you follow the substantially level farm road eastward, parallel to but lower than the one traveled on the outward journey until you cross the Barasson stream and then, a few hundred meters further on, reconnect with the route already known just above the houses of Eternod.
