Parish Church of St. Hilary
Details
Description
It is located in a dominant position above the village of Gignod, a place from which there is a beautiful view of the high peaks around and where once stood the castle of the nobles "De Gigno "with a primitive church mentioned in 1176.
This present one, dedicated to St. Hilary, dates back to the 15th century, while the bell tower was the work of "Yolli De Vuetto" a master builder from Gressoney and dates back to 1485.
In its interior, a Baroque altar, carved in walnut wood rests on another stone altar from 1456, is a valuable work as are the objects contained in the small museum of sacred art displayed beside it.
